Six Gap Saturday
July 31, 2021
With last weekend being too busy for a ride (blasphemy!), I could not let Saturday slip away without feeding the addiction. After venturing into NC last ride, I planned to stay in Georgia all day and hit the Six Gaps (https://sixgap.com/). This little 77 mile loop is just the bee's knees. I mean, really. A spectacular mix of super technical turns, fast and flowing sweeps, sweet climbs and decents reward the rider who opts for this route.
The summer morning was spectacular starting with my coffee and 68 degrees. A bit of the misty stuff around, but not enough to impede vision or cause any real concerns. I rolled out of Young Harris at 8ish on my way to the first gap of the day. I couldn't resist a quick stop at the Nottley Dam for shot with the mist rolling over the morning stillness. A rip through Skeena and Wolf Pen gaps led me to my new home away from home. Two Wheels was nicely attended and I love seeing folks there eating and spending some cash. I threw down some of my hard earned on a fantastic breakfast sammy, and it was just what I needed. After a few minutes of digesting on the porch (man rocking chairs just help ya stay regular, ya know?), I was ready to keep gapping. While gearing up, a new friend recongized me as his group pulled in and we had a quick "howdy". The moto community is so cool. It's huge and small at the same time, paralelling the world itself.
The rest of the ride and the day were simply spectacular. Jackie Blue was running flawlessly and we carved our way through the North Georgia mountains with abandon (not too much abandon, juuuust the right amount). At one of the gaps, I did some tagging for my boys in the CFSTG. I have been, and will continue to, tag CFST stickers in cool moto spots for the crew to try and spot when they come up to ride!
Looping back through Helen, I hit the last gap (Unicoi) and the home stretch back to the YH just on time. I was looking forward to the after ride party this week, which happened to be at the Anderson Music Hall featuring the legendary Dwight Yokham in concert. Pretty dang good day.
